Session 1 How Today’s American Muslim Scientist and Engineers can help raise the interest in scientific discoveries amongst Muslim youth

This panel discussion will focus on the scientific contributions by Muslim Americans and the impact of their discoveries on humanity.  Contributions made by Aziz Sancar, 2015 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Fazlur Khan, designer of the Willis (Sears) Tower in Chicago, and Ahmed Zewail, Nobel prize winner in Chemistry in 1999 will be discussed. Panelists will review these eminent scientists’ work and how they impacted the human society. They will also relate Quranic texts with discovering Allah’s creations of earthly and celestial objects and the rules that bound them. The panel discussion is expected to raise questions on the ways to inspire the Muslim youth to take the teachings of Quran and apply them in their endeavor to make new contributions to science, engineering, and technology.
